Our History
Historic McCoy House Bed & Breakfast

The beautiful McCoy House was built in 1848 for a prominent Pendleton County citizen named William McCoy and his family. William McCoy was involved in both state and local affairs. He served as deputy sheriff, justice of the peace, and as a representative of Pendleton County in state legislature . The McCoy House is a L-shaped Greek revival style house that served as a military headquarters during the Civil War which housed a telegraph that was a main source of communication for troops during the war. The telegraph line reached from Franklin to Moorefield.
This house has survived a long and amazing history including staying intact during the 1924 fire that devastated downtown Franklin leaving many in a state of distress. The McCoy House managed to stay standing and with doing so also offered many a place to conduct business while the town of Franklin started to rebuild. The Historic McCoy House stayed in family possession until the late 1950s-early 1960s, but stayed a very ever evolving part of our town history. The Historic McCoy House has housed the Pendleton County Town Offices and was the home to the Pendleton County Library for a time. Many in the town of Franklin, WV and in Pendleton County have a beautiful memory of this great historic home and those who lived and worked here.

"Our goal to keep the history of this grand home alive and for it to keep providing memories for many people to come."

It's all in the details
Our bed & breakfast is truly one that we take all lot of pride in. We have put a lot of thought, research & detail into our property. The majority of our furniture in the Historic McCoy House are originals built in the mid to late 1800s to early 1900s. We try to feature & highlight what was special architectural features of the house with colors & life that you would have seen in the house within its prime. As members of the Pendleton County Historical Society, we have worked closely with them, as well as the main families in a direct line to the house's heritage. By doing so, we are able to translate the past into the modern experience we provide today.
As a special touch & per request of our guests, we enjoy dressing up in period clothing to magnify the cultural, traditional experience.
